Lightroom 2 from Adobe has finally arrived. The best photo management software available just got better. Yesterday, Adobe released the newest Version of Lightroom - Version 2. Following a beta program lasting many months, Adobe has managed to once again surprise us with the introduction of two amazing new tools. Everyone knew that localized dodging and burning would be in the final release - but no one expected the sophisicated adjustment brush and gradient filter tools. New Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® software is the professional photographer’s essential toolbox, providing one easy application for managing, adjusting, and presenting large volumes of digital photographs.

If you haven’t yet heard about Adobe® Lightroom® you’re missing out on one of the best photo management software packages available.  In this article I’d like to present a small overview of this feature packed product.

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce a new feature we’ve incorporated into this site. The comments section now has the ability to display Gravatars. A Gravatar is a globally recognized Avatar for an individual (actually one Email address) in the Internet. Avatars are stored in a central location and displayed next to your name in those WEB applications that support them.

The procedure is simple, you need to set up an account at gravatar.com with your Email address. Then you upload a photo that will automatically be reduced in size if required. The standard size of a Gravatar is 80*80 Pixels. In the next step your photo is linked to your Email address and thereafter automatically shows up on those sites that support Gravatars. Your Gravatar is by no means permanent – you have the option to change your Gravatar image whenever you wish.

Why did we incorporate this latest enhancement? Simply this. Our goal at profiPhotos is to build up a community where people with an interest in photography can exchange thoughts, ideas and engage in lively discussions. To further that end, we believe our users will feel more at home when they can see other users of this site – very similar to when engaging in a “live“ conversation.

In the coming months I’m going to be introducing a number of ideas with a common goal in mind – you should feel comfortable here and perhaps make some new friends along the way. As part of this process, I’m building a new virtual photo gallery at Google’s new  “Lively” site. World’s First 50 Megapixel CCD Sensor Sets New Standard for Professional Photographers

ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 8 — Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK) has achieved another breakthrough in its storied history of imaging technology innovation with the introduction of the world’s first 50 million pixel CCD image sensor for professional photography.   

At 50 million pixels, or megapixels, the sensor captures digital images with unprecedented resolution and detail. For instance, with a 50 megapixel camera, in an aerial photo of a field 1-½ miles across, you could detect an object about the size of a small notebook computer (1 foot by 1 foot).

What’s more, the KODAK KAF-50100 Image Sensor features a newly designed pixel that is smaller in size than the pixel used in current products for this professional market. This new pixel also reduces “click-to-capture” time for improved camera response, lowers power consumption for improved battery life, and improves color fidelity without compromising on the benefits to be enjoyed from larger pixel sizes. Volume production is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2008.
