Photo Gallery: My World in Pictures

Since this profiPhotos Blog is all about photography, I thought I’d share some recent photos I’ve taken. They’re a mixture of holiday, day outings and fun with family and friends. I’m sure there will be a favourite for everyone. I’d love to hear some feedback. Oh yeah, just click on one of the photos to start the slide show. Then click the forward or back arrows to cycle through the photos. Enjoy.

Ready for profiPhotos Blog Rollout

It’s been a while since my last entry. That’s basically because I’m splitting time between my paying job and working on enhancing the profiPhotos Blog site. At the end of the day, I barely have enough time left over to sleep.

Ok, here are the Blog features;

  • All standard WordPress features are in place and integrated into my “Photo Matrix” theme.
  • Visitors to the site can register (saves time when posting comments) using the WordPress login screen (will update that for profiPhotos later)
  • Added a mini slide show feature based on JonDesign’s SmoothGallery. In the near future, I plan on expanding on his excellent work to load photos directly from the WordPress media library of this site. Registered users will be able to upload their own photos and create a gallery of photos that display in the mini gallery when they visit this Blog.
  • Starting to research and load photo-related news, tests and software downloads using RSS feeds (currently using several from PC-Welt). If anyone knows of any RSS feeds I should be aware of, please post them in a comment so I can follow up.

And here’s the things I hope to add real soon;

  1. Multilingual support. (originally English and German) I’ve read a few posts over on the WordPress site about this but I will need to dig a little deeper to come up with a clean implementation for this site.
  2. Integration of the TinyMCE Advanced editor into the comments posting section of the Blog. This very flexible WYSIWYG HTML editor is written in pure Javascript and can be integrated into any browser or WEB page. I’m currently using Version 3.0 in the WordPress admin site to write this post.

That should keep me busy for at least a week or two. I then really need to get back to the main profiPhotos web site and kick that development work back into high gear. In the meantime however I’m hoping to see a few comments posted from all of you. Back to work now …

Taking a break from WEB Site

After spending a number of weeks working on the Photo Gallery of the main site it dawned on me that I have this awfully static looking placeholder for the profiPhotos main page. Original Static WEB Presense Rather than leave this page on the site until the WEB site rolls out, I thought it would be kind of fun to put a Blog out there so that I can share with you what is going on with the WEB site development. I had a look around at a couple of Blog packages and finally settled on the very popular WordPress because it fits in nicely with the back-end tools I’m using to build the WEB site. I am very impressed with the features of the Blog software and at the same time am once again having to learn yet another tool to complement the WEB site. I hope you like the first version of the Blog I’ve created. Now the next challenge will be to update the Blog system so that it will work in multiple languages. The profiPhotos WEB site will also be a multilingual one where you’ll be able to choose the icon that reflects the language you’d like to use with the site.

Sorting out the Blog Theme

As I am quickly learning, everyone has their own idea of what makes the perfect Blog theme. I guess that’s why we all are individuals – and this is a good thing! Well, I’m no exception to this rule and that’s why I’m sitting here after working a full 12 hour shift, and should actually be going to bed, but instead I’m looking over Blogs from other creative people and picking out the cool, neat, and other innovative features to be incorporated into the theme I’ll be building for the profiPhotos Blog.

That’s what I think is so interesting about a Blog – friends, family and loved ones can know what I’m up to and can experience the building of this Blog and the WEB site through my daily log entries. (I promise I’ll keep them short so as not to lose too many readers)

Right now, I’m going to finish my cup of tea, review a few more Blogs and then it’s off to bed …
